So…. why now, after 18 years of contracting do I decide to put some effort in an get a website setup. I have to admit, part of it is the challenge of building it myself, using open source tools and hosting it myself using some of the capabilities in Azure that I’ve been playing with recently. A challenge to see just how professional (or otherwise!) a site I can muster whilst keeping the hosting costs to pennies. It’s also an excuse to learn some uptodate and relevant content management tools - and I’m a sucker for anything that needs me to learn something that i know nothing about. But the other, and perhaps more practical reason is that I increasingly realise that a linear CV is a very poor method of communicating who I am and what I can offer. I’ll still have a CV of course to send out to recruiters - but I can point them to this site, where i hope I’ll be able to convey the breadth of my experience, some of the depth and also be able to provide a level of detail in specific areas that would just be excessive on a CV (mine was already 9 pages and I realise that’s already at least double the length it should be)
